This is a continuous progression, although sometimes, we feel we are going backwards. We are currently in the process of building a bog, a new filtration system using rocks and water plants. I’m hoping to use cattails.
We live in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by wooded areas and nature. It is my personal writing retreat. In the summer I usually write out back on our deck. I hear the waterfall and birds as I write. This is our fish pond.
On some days the fish are under ice and on others they are swimming around. The Koi are more sluggish during this weather, but the goldfish remain hungry. We’ve only recently discovered they will eat most anything. They seem to love the carbs such as bread and rice better than the fish food.
On Saturday we went to Home Goods looking for a mortar and pestle, which we found. We also came home with Buddha, which we put above the waterfall. Feeding the fish breadcrumbs.

A picture of our fish pod changed by an application called Prisma – Love it!
Enjoying the fish in the pond this morning. We still have some stuff to do on the pond, for instance, hiding the filtration box. The grass will probably do that in the future. I think we have the waterfalls the way we want them. The fish have been spawning. We had breakfast on the deckContinue reading “The Joys of Warmer Weather”
We actually have two ponds, well, four, if you count the two in different fields for cows that are no longer there. I’m sure the deer benefit. There are two in our yard, a front one and a back one. We put a few goldfish, tiny ones from Wal-Mart, several years ago, in the backContinue reading “Adventures of the Pond”
This is one of the things that has been taking up a lot of our time, and will continue to do so as there is always work to be done. It’s like doing laundry and mowing the lawn. And, last night the pump went out. Perhaps we expanded the pond so much it couldn’t carryContinue reading “Koi and Goldfish Pond”
