Moon Moments – Shine On Full Moon

This was a writing assignment to describe myself as an aspect of the moon.

When given these assignments to describe ourselves in some way I always refer to my husband for his opinion or maybe it’s more of a confirmation of what I’m already thinking.  In this case he just added more luminescence husbandly adoration with the answer.  I asked what phase of the moon do I remind you of.  He said full.  I said why.  He said because you are so bright and pretty.  Okay, that’s his opinion.  Still, I think it’s taken me this long in life, nearly sixty, to truly shine as the full moon and realize brightness and prettiness.  It can still be a struggle to let go and fully appreciate myself in that way.

They say beauty (or prettiness) is in the eye of the beholder.  I would say it’s in the eye of love or wisdom.  At this age, or any other for that matter, one of the most important achievements is learning to love ourselves and having the wisdom that makes it possible.

Although I know my sun sign, and I’ve always considered myself a predominately sun person, as I love brightness and warmth, I am also ruled by intuition, which is a moon characteristic.  I looked up my moon sign to find it in cancer.  I think it is mostly accurate.

It is taken from: http://www.lunarium.co.uk/

“Caring, emotional, sensitive and intuitive. Likes to spend time with family, hates new unfamiliar surroundings.

If you see a strong courageous-looking person, but you know that his or her Moon is in Cancer, take into account that the chances are that this person is vulnerable and touchy, even tender, and has a subtle understanding of other people’s emotions. Whether this is a man or a woman, they probably worship their mother and have exceptionally strong emotional bonds with her.

Moon in Cancer individuals need to have their own home, or at least a room, or at least a corner in a room, but only their own and not someone else’s. They can be strongly (and irrationally) attached to certain items, which they have important emotional associations with.

There are very few people in the world who are really, really important for the Moon in Cancer, whom he or she considers as their own. Mother is number one, of course, and the kids, no doubt, but perhaps nobody else. Even a spouse can often be considered to represent more or less hostile outer world who cannot be completely trusted. Moon in Cancer people appreciate stable family life but often cannot create that stability and may even put their relationships under stress by constantly comparing the partner to their mother, and demanding from the partner mother-like care and concern.

Emotional problems of the Moon in Cancer are easily reflected on the physical level, hence problems with digestion, breasts or stomach disorders. To restore his or her energy after a stressful period, the Moon in Cancer needs to hide from the outer world in his or her home and to see only the most trusted and closest people.

Moon in Cancer individuals can be superb parents, and a father with this Moon can be more solicitous than a mother, if she has her Moon in a different sign. But there is a negative side to this: this parent can easily spoil children with excessive care and concern, especially if the children are not naturally self-reliant anyway.”

While a good deal of it’s true such as stomach problems, intuitive, emotional (mostly inward), perhaps overly sensitive, and my husband would say I’m caring, I would not consider myself a superb parent by any stretch of the imagination.  I love my own space, but do like discovering new things, but at the same time like a sort of familiarity with the new place I’m discovering if that makes any sense.

The full moon has become more important to us as we usually do full moon meditations now.

I’m thankful we have a beautiful space out in the country to just gaze up and stare at the moon and those brilliant starry nights.

  1. Shine on moon woman, and share your light with the world. In my experience of you, the full moon is a perfect description.
